Mary Katherine auditioned for the job in May 2007 during the Spring of her Senior year in High School. There were 500 who auditioned. At the end of the first day and after many cuts there were 35 remaining. The next morning these 35 returned to Radio City for the second day of auditions. After 4 hours, 10 more were cut. The remaining 25 were measured for costumes and were told that if the Rockettes needed them they would be contacted no later than August 31st. In July, Mary Katherine received a phone call from a film crew that is making a documentary about the Rockettes. He filmed the auditions in May and now wanted to follow a few of the girls as they waited to see if they had a job. He asked if she would be in NYC anytime soon so they could set up an interview. So, they set up an interview at Broadway Dance Center while Mary Katherine was in NYC attending DMA’s National Convention. At the end of the interview, and with the cameras still rolling, she was offered a position on the New York line… and was told that only 2 out of the 25 were offered the NYC job! The documentary film crew will follow the Rockettes throughout the 2007 Christmas Spectacular Season. Check back on the DMA website to find out when the television special will run.
